Brick oftentimes is considered to be one of the most dynamic choices for building materials, because of its structural integrity as well as its ability to pair well in both modern and historic design. In Ogden, it’s one of the most common facade elements found, lining both historic 25th Street as well as the arterial roads of Wall, Washington, and Harrison. Because of the project’s proximity to downtown Ogden, the design of this law office stays true to the historic use of brick in the area, while integrating the firm’s colors into the exterior. The lightening of the brick creates a visual juxtaposition with the dark cementitious siding, allowing the masonry to be central to the design and draw attention to the taller extruded faces of the building. The storefront and brick bands around the building go along with the horizontal motif the building evokes. Strategically placed canopies also allow for the sun’s heat to enter the building during the cold winter months while blocking the summer’s strong rays from increasing the temperature of the building’s interiors.
